Brenda is a certified Warriors at Ease instructor, a 200-hour Yoga Alliance RYT and a trained iRest® Level 1 teacher. As the wife of a Marine veteran, the daughter of an Air Force veteran, and with many others in her immediate family having served, Brenda is passionate about working with the military community. She is the mother of three children, the youngest of whom is currently a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Army ROTC.
With over 30 years experience in the health and wellness field, Brenda has previously held certifications with ACSM and ACE. She has worked for the past 14 years as a substitute teacher, focusing on children with special needs.
When yoga found Brenda, she found an activity she thought she could practice for the rest of her life. What happened next is common: the layers of stress inherent in military life, raising a family, and job transitions, began to unwind through her continued dedication to practice.
Surrounded by the military community, she noticed that our country has done a superb job at training warriors, but seems to be lacking in providing tools to integrate back into noncombat or civilian roles. She sees yoga and meditation as more tools in the toolbox to adjust to the ever-changing demands of life.
Having experienced many injuries, including a serious back injury, Brenda understands and encourages each student to meet themselves on the yoga mat, exactly where they are that day.
While her commitment to continued training in yoga is a constant in her life, she is also working toward a black belt in combat hapkido. She supports and believes in the roles of both the warrior and the yogi in society.
Brenda is located in the North Virginia area, and is available for individual and group practice sessions as well as workshops. Please feel free to contact her at bhilgartner @ yahoo.com with any questions or to schedule a practice.
