Cheryl is a registered 200-hour (RYT 200) Yoga Alliance teacher and certified Silverage Yoga instructor.
Her yoga journey began in the 1970’s. During her pre-teen and teen yeas it served to focus energy. By the late 80’s through the 90’s yoga and meditation served as a tool for focus and stress relief. She found that and so much more in yoga as she experienced an over-all improvement in her well-being and peace of mind.
As the years passed she began to look at yoga in a different light and made the decision to attend the 200 hour program at “Peace Through Yoga” in Indianapolis. It was there that she and her partner, Ogle Lowry, discovered a need for a program that would allow students, who are new to yoga or just want to try yoga, to have a safe place in which to discover the poses and benefits of the practice. They created the “Yoga Basics 101” program which was put into effect April 2011. The 6-week workshop loops continuously at two of the “Peace Through Yoga” locations.
At the end of 2011 Cheryl suffered a severe back injury which ultimately led her to becoming certified with “Silver Age Yoga”. The Silver Age program focuses on the senior population and their accompanying medical issues and physical conditions. She realized that by embracing her injury she had developed deeper empathy toward others also suffering from severe injuries. She wanted to provide those individuals with tools for a safe practice which would allow them to gain mobility, flexibility and peace of mind.
Cheryl also has several friends and family members who have served in the military or are active. Although she did not follow her father, a Submariner, into military service, she carries a great respect for all who serve. This connection then led her to search for a local program which specifically served military personnel and their families. She was surprised to learn that there was not a program offered in the Indianapolis area. It was during this search that she learned about “Warriors At Ease”. She passed this information on to her partner, who is retired Air Force. In 2013 they began their journey with “Warriors At Ease”. Cheryl intends to pursue ways to implement yoga programs for veterans and their families in her area.
Cheryl is located in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is available for individual and group practice sessions.
