Roberta Speh | Certified Warriors At Ease Teacher | Foley, AL
She views her work with veterans as a way of honoring her late husband and two brothers service in the Navy. Her volunteer work includes: Baldwin County Veterans Treatment Court (community liaison/veterans advocate for justice-involved veterans–connecting them with resources and helping develop complementary alternative programs to augment substance abuse and mental health treatments); Gulf Coast Veterans in Need Committee (board member–assisting severely injured Pensacola area veterans with re-integration); Quilts of Valor Foundation (making quilts for wounded service members); and Gulf Coast Veterans Advocacy Council (advocating for the needs of rural area veterans).
Five years ago, Roberta combined her meditation instruction and love of quilting to begin teaching monthly meditation classes with a PTSD program at the Biloxi, MS VA Hospital. She designed an 11-foot square quilt for lying on during class and sends each veteran home with lap-size quilted ‘exercise mats’.
Roberta is very pleased to become part of the WAE community! Her initial plans are to develop a 6-8-week program for teaching trauma-sensitive meditation/mindfulness/
resilience with the Veterans Treatment Court.
