This is our only stand-alone Part 2B course for 2016.

At this course, you will:

1. Deepen your understanding of the U.S. military and culture and learn how to address PTSD, TBI, amputations, spinal cord injuries and combat-related stress by using sensory-based strategies, yoga and meditation to improve psychological health and help alleviate the symptoms of these conditions.

2. Learn trauma-sensitive teaching guidelines and precautions, as well as yoga asana sequence protocols and modifications for these military populations:
• able-bodied servicemembers with and without PTSD
• older veterans with chronic physical illness and PTSD
• veterans and service members with MST (military sexual trauma)
• veterans and service members suffering from major physical illness, TBI, spinal cord injuries and amputations
• veterans and service members in wheelchairs
3. Learn the neurophysiology of PTSD and how sensory processing can be affected by war-related trauma.
4. Learn how to incorporate applicable sensory integration treatment principles and techniques into a yoga class for military personnel or combat veterans to to support healthy physical, emotional and mental functioning..
5. Learn pranayama (breathing) techniques that are most effective in reducing the symptoms of stress and trauma.
At the end of this training, you will be able to teach an appropriate, therapeutic yoga class to any segment of the military community with appropriate mental health support as needed.

Earning your Part 2B Certificate of Completion requires participation in all training sessions and successful passage of practice teaching sessions.
