iRest, Yoga Nidra, and the Military

What’s iRest, and how could it help the military community?

Yoga Journal wrote a piece about yoga and its effect on military community who have experienced severe trauma. Inside, Warriors at Ease co-founder and executive director Robin Carnes discussed her experiences teaching iRest, which refers to the practice of observing one’s thoughts and emotions from an objective perspective, and understanding the Self beyond the mind, body and spirit. Carnes stated that she uses a different terminology and language when teaching yoga classes for the military in order to be culturally sensitive to the unique environment of military communities and for obtaining optimal results within that environment. Other instructors discuss iRest, Yoga Nidra, and the benefits of the practice for soldiers. These practices are equipped for helping veterans who have experienced traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress, and/or PTSD.
